A SetHero alternative: KitSlate or SetHero?

SetHero is call sheet and production report software for film and video sets, sold per project or as Starter, Pro, Studio and Enterprise subscriptions.

KitSlate keeps one record per job that the gear list, the call sheet, the quote, the invoice and the releases all read from, from $19 a month. SetHero’s side of the table is from its own pages, read on 3 November 2026. “Not stated” means their pages did not say, not that they lack it.

KitSlate and SetHero

Where SetHero leadsSetHero leads on call sheets and on what happens after they go out. Its drag and drop builder publishes call sheets made for each person by email, text and PDF, with automatic weather, sunrise and sunset times, map links and overtime checks. Each person confirms their own call time from a phone with no account or app, and the producer sees who opened it, how many times and who confirmed, with bounce alerts and one click resend. Production reports spin off a call sheet in one click, with union-ready time logs, overtime and meal penalties. Pricing is flexible: a one-time cost per project, weekly billing for long shoots, or a subscription from $19 a month, with the first project free and free use for students and schools.

Where KitSlate leadsKitSlate keeps the rest of the job beside the call sheet. Your own equipment inventory is priced into gear lists and packed by case, availability is checked across every job, quotes and invoices are priced from the job with card payment through your own Stripe, receipts are read and billed with the receipts attached, releases are signed on a phone, and the Media Center sends rushes that play in the browser.

Call sheetsBuilt on cards with the sheet previewed beneath, one sheet per day of a multi-day job. Schedule and calendarA calendar that draws each booking across every day it occupies, with holds from Inquiry through 1st, 2nd and 3rd Hold to Confirmed, and drafts that hold space without blocking the date. The day's schedule is built on the call sheet. Google Calendar connects per company, and a feed sends bookings to your phone's calendar.Their FAQ says SetHero does not currently do scheduling. You set the shoot days in a Shoot Schedules tab, and each call sheet carries the day's schedule and an optional advance schedule for the next day. Scenes can be imported from Excel.Currently, SetHero does not do scheduling or script breakdowns.Product
Script, shot list, storyboardKitSlate has no script breakdown, shot lists, storyboards or stripboard. It starts from the job: dates, crew, gear and paperwork.Their FAQ says SetHero does not do script breakdowns, and script files cannot be imported. QuotesThe quote pulls its equipment from the gear list and its crew from the call sheet, so it is priced from the job. Edit either side and the two are shown out of step, with the choice to keep them different. Not stated
Invoices and paymentThe invoice is a frozen copy of the approved quote with its own number and a version history. The client gets a hosted page; with card payment on, it carries a Stripe checkout that pays into your own Stripe account, and the PDF a Pay button and QR code. Expenses and receiptsDrop PDFs and photos, or send crew a link to photograph theirs on the day. BudgetsNo separate budgeting sheet. The quote prices the job and what you expect the expenses to come to, the Expenses tab records what they actually came to, and the reports show the figures. Not stated

Releases and contractsTalent releases, location releases, NDAs and your own agreements, with signers pulled from the call sheet and deal terms filled from the job.
