KitSlate compared with Media Shuttle, MASV, WeTransfer, Dropbox and FileZilla

How the Media Center sits beside the tools a production company sends rushes with. Every rival cell is from that company’s own pages — pricing, product, help centre and terms — read on 8 October 2026, with the pages listed under the table. “Not stated” means their pages do not say, not that the product cannot. Where a rival leads, the table says so.

KitSlate’s own figures come from its plans: up to 1 TB per transfer, 5 GB on the free profile.

About speed. Media Shuttle uses Signiant's own accelerated protocol over UDP, through the free Signiant App; MASV says it uses multi-threaded file acceleration over HTTPS on a global accelerated network, and that its desktop app is faster than its web app; WeTransfer has iOS, Android and Mac menu-bar apps beside the browser; Dropbox has a desktop app and mobile apps, and says interrupted transfers resume; FileZilla is a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, over FTP, FTPS and SFTP. Over long distances an accelerated engine is built to move files faster than an ordinary upload. KitSlate is a browser with nothing to install. Measured from our office in Manhattan on a 2 Gbps fiber connection: 1.82 Gbps up to KitSlate storage over 12 connections, 2.04 Gbps back down. That is 100 GB in about 8 min, 1 TB in about 1 h 21 min, measured 7 October 2026.

No side-by-side measurement against an accelerated engine has been published, so this page does not claim KitSlate is faster than one. The speed test on the Send page measures your own line before you send.

Who leads where

One line each way. The full rows, in sentences, are on each comparison page.

KitSlate and Signiant Media Shuttle

Where Media Shuttle leadsSpeed over distance and scale: Signiant's accelerated UDP transport through the free Signiant App, which Signiant says is up to 100 times faster than FTP; no file size limits; unlimited Send, Share and Submit portals on your own storage; SAML SSO (Enterprise) and MFA; and SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 reports and a TPN Gold Shield assessment.

Where KitSlate leadsNothing to install for the sender or the person receiving, a published monthly price from a free plan up, and review built in: camera files play on the page, notes at the timecode, every audio track and LUTs. In Media Shuttle, playing professional formats in the browser and downloading part of a clip need Signiant Media Engine.

KitSlate and MASV

Where MASV leadsBuilt for size, speed and automation: a global accelerated network with multi-threaded transfers that resume, which MASV says uses 90%+ of your bandwidth even on 10 Gbps lines; no package limit (single files tested to 15 TB); a desktop app and a headless Agent; Portals for clients to upload to you; delivery straight into S3, Frame.io, iconik and NAS; Express for downloading while the upload is still going; and published SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and TPN.

Where KitSlate leadsThe person you send to can watch before they download: camera files and MXF play on the page, with every audio track, notes at the timecode, LUTs and part downloads. KitSlate is a plan price with nothing per gigabyte, and the transfer sits beside the job's quotes, call sheets and invoices.

Every row, with its source →

KitSlate and WeTransfer

Where WeTransfer leadsA widely used service (they cite 12M+ monthly active users) with no account to download; Ultimate with no size cap on its pricing page and links that can stay up as long as you like; uploads that pick up again after a dropped connection; your own subdomain and backgrounds; Request Files for uploads; mobile and Mac apps; published ISO 27001; SSO, SCIM and an activity feed for SIEM tools on business plans; and a written commitment not to train AI on your content.

Where KitSlate leadsCamera files and MXF play on the page, where WeTransfer's help centre lists previews for MP4, MOV and M4V up to 1 GB each; notes pinned to the timecode; every audio track; LUTs; part downloads; a spec sheet read from the file; and a link that works before the upload ends.

Every row, with its source →

KitSlate and Dropbox Transfer and Replay

Where Dropbox leadsReplay is a dedicated review tool: comments on an exact frame or a range, drawing on the frame, versions and live review, with integrations for Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, LumaFusion and Pro Tools. Transfer comes with every Dropbox plan, file requests let clients upload, and Dropbox lists SOC 1, 2 and 3 reports and ISO 27001.

Where KitSlate leadsLarger single sends than Transfer's biggest plan, a link that works before the upload ends, every audio track with its own meter, LUTs, part downloads in original quality where the file allows and a spec sheet read from the file. KitSlate does not read, analyse or train on the files you transfer.

Every row, with its source →

KitSlate and FileZilla

Where FileZilla leadsFree and open source, with no size cap stated (the client handles files over 4 GB): files go straight between your computer and your own server or cloud account, transfers resume, and it works on Windows, macOS and Linux. The free client and server cost nothing; Pro is a flat yearly licence per user, and Enterprise Server one per server with unlimited users.

Where KitSlate leadsThe person you send to needs only a link and a browser, with no login to your server. KitSlate plays the clips, takes notes at the timecode and shows who downloaded each link. FileZilla's pages describe no playback or timecode notes; Pro can make Box, OneDrive and Google Drive share links, and Enterprise Server keeps transfer logs.
