KitSlate or Signiant Media Shuttle for sending video files?

Signiant Media Shuttle is a cloud-managed file transfer service: branded Send, Share and Submit portals over Signiant's accelerated transport, with your own storage behind them. Signiant Media Engine adds search, in-browser play of professional formats and clips.

KitSlate’s Media Center sends up to 1 TB per transfer, plays the clips for the person you send to, takes their notes at a timecode and keeps the transfer beside the job’s quotes, call sheets and invoices. Signiant Media Shuttle’s side of the table is from its own pages, read on 8 October 2026. “Not stated” means their pages do not say.

KitSlate and Signiant Media Shuttle

Where Media Shuttle leadsSpeed over distance and scale: Signiant's accelerated UDP transport through the free Signiant App, which Signiant says is up to 100 times faster than FTP; no file size limits; unlimited Send, Share and Submit portals on your own storage; SAML SSO (Enterprise) and MFA; and SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 reports and a TPN Gold Shield assessment.

Where KitSlate leadsNothing to install for the sender or the person receiving, a published monthly price from a free plan up, and review built in: camera files play on the page, notes at the timecode, every audio track and LUTs. In Media Shuttle, playing professional formats in the browser and downloading part of a clip need Signiant Media Engine.

Largest transferPer transfer: 5 GB on the free profile, 500 GB on Solo, 1 TB on Studio and above, up to 500 files.Signiant publishes "No file size limits" on Small Business, and Professional includes everything in Small Business. On file-system storage an admin can set a maximum file size per portal. Without the Signiant App there is no set file size limit either, but Signiant lists practical limits based on time.
StorageYour live links share your storage: 100 GB on the free profile, 500 GB on Solo, 2 TB on Studio, 4 TB on Production House, 10 TB on Enterprise. No storage included; Signiant says it does not bundle or resell storage. Portals use your own storage: on-premises (SDCX Server), Amazon S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud Storage or S3-compatible. Cloud payload: Professional 25TB, Enterprise 100TB; Small Business includes an allowance, amount not stated.
Link before the upload endsYes. The link exists the moment the upload starts, so you can share it while the files are still on their way; their page shows what has arrived and fills in the rest as it comes. Not stated for Media Shuttle; Send portals are described as store-and-forward. Starting a transfer while the file is still being written is documented for Jet, a separate system-to-system product (Enterprise subscription).
Uploads from clientsNo. Recipients can write back to you on the page; they cannot send files to you.Three portal types: Send (person to person by email), Share (shared folder, like FTP) and Submit (people send files in). Unlimited portals on every plan. Custom metadata forms on Submit portals are an Enterprise feature. Members can also request files from people who are not members.
Speed
Transfer engineIn the browser over HTTPS, with nothing to install. Each file goes up in parts over as many as 32 parallel connections, set by a speed test before you send; an interrupted upload carries on from the last part saved, and downloads resume too. No accelerated UDP protocol and no desktop app.Signiant's own transport protocol over UDP, carried by the free desktop Signiant App. Interrupted transfers restart where they left off, and several files move at once. Without the app, transfers are not accelerated. For S3 storage, Intelligent Transport picks the best protocol.
What the sender usesA browser. There is no desktop or mobile app to install.Browser portals. Free Signiant App for acceleration on Windows 11, macOS 14/15/26 and Linux (RHEL, Rocky, Ubuntu). Free iPhone app (iOS 17+) for uploading to Submit portals; Android is in development. Transfers without the app on iOS Safari and Android Chrome. Command-line tool: Not stated.
Speed, as publishedMeasured from our office in Manhattan on a 2 Gbps fiber connection: 1.82 Gbps up to KitSlate storage over 12 connections, 2.04 Gbps back down. Watching and review
Plays in the browserH.264 video and sound play on the page. Camera files play too, MXF included: from the proxy the camera recorded, or from a preview KitSlate makes on paid plans, within the plan's monthly preview minutes. The download is the untouched master. ProRes and DNxHR .mov files show their specs and download; most browsers play only their sound.Share portals can play browser-playable audio and video. With Media Engine (the Play setting needs a Media Engine subscription, and Media Engine indexing works only on Share portals), professional formats play in the browser without proxies: ProRes (not ProRes RAW), DNxHD/HR, H.264, HEVC, XDCAM and Blackmagic RAW, in MOV, MP4 or MXF OP1a. R3D files preview but are not listed for playback.
Spec sheetA spec sheet read from the file itself: Picture (codec, bit depth, frame rate), Sound (tracks and their names, sample rate) and Source (start timecode, camera, scene and take). With Media Engine, the Detail View shows technical metadata, including video and audio codec, frame rate, scan type, duration, size, height and width, plus descriptive and camera metadata and sidecar JSON. The player can show position as timecode or frames. Source timecode as a metadata field: Not stated.
Comments at a timecodePause and write: the note carries the clip's source timecode and opens the clip at that frame; you answer on the same thread. Notes sit as markers on the scrubber, and J, K and L play backwards, pause and speed up, on every plan. Frame step, an A-B loop, snapshots and the timecode display are on paid plans; a recipient whose own KitSlate plan is paid gets them by signing in on the page.Signiant's own Frame.io comparison marks frame-accurate review and approve as something the Signiant Platform does not have. A Share portal can move files from a review folder to an approved folder, which Signiant calls a simple review and approval workflow. If your workflows involve frame accurate comments and collaboration, Frame.io is a great choice.Signiant vs. Frame.io
LUT viewLog footage shows as Rec.709 from the camera's metadata, a LUT in the clip or on the card, or a show LUT you attach; one switch shows the original. On paid plans. Not stated
Download part of a clipSet an in and an out and download that part: WAV, MP4 and MOV in their original quality (a long-GOP clip starts on the keyframe at or before the in point), and any previewed file as a compressed MP4. On paid plans. With Media Engine you mark in and out points and save a clip, written to the same storage as the original, which can then be downloaded. ProRes or DNxHD in .mov, and DNxHD in .mxf, can be clipped in the source format; anything else is converted to Apple ProRes, which Signiant calls visually lossless.
TranscriptsA transcript of each audio and video file, every line with the clip's own timecode: the words light up as it plays, a press on a line goes there, and it is searchable. Select a few words to trim to exactly that part, or attach them to a comment. Download it as text with or without timecodes, or as SRT or VTT subtitles. Made automatically by Workers AI (whisper-large-v3-turbo), with no speaker labels, so check it before you quote it. Off until the sender switches it on; on paid plans. Not stated
Audio
Every audio trackOn paid plans every track gets a lane with a switch, solo and a meter with peak hold and loudness, and the Audio menu adds Left, Right and Reverse; Stereo and Mono are on every plan. On a camera file's preview you hear a stereo mix, with every track listed. Not stated
Audio as its own fileA sound recorder's poly WAV downloads whole on every plan; on paid plans also as one track, or split into a mono WAV per track, with the mixer's track names. Not stated
Delivery and tracking
Download trackingPer recipient: opened, played, downloaded, with the time and the speed. Open a transfer you sent and you see their page with an Activity panel only you see. Emails the first time each person downloads, on every download, or never.Email to the recipient when files are ready, and to the sender and others the admin names on download or failure. My Transfers shows who downloaded and when. Admins get File History and Events, exportable as CSV.
Your brandingOn paid plans the email and the download page carry your company's name, logo, email and phone, for the company you send as. No custom domain.Per portal: logo, background image, colour scheme, favicon, footer text and language. Portals sit at <name>.mediashuttle.com and can be embedded by iframe on your own site. Custom domain: Not stated.
IntegrationsNone for transfers: no editing-software panels, no cloud-storage connectors and no transfer API. Recipients come from your KitSlate crew, client and company books.Management API (included in all subscriptions, per the white paper), System-to-Person API with webhooks (sold separately per one article), SDK and automation APIs (Enterprise), SAML SSO. Works with Jet, Flight Deck and Media Engine. Named NLE or cloud-drive integrations: Not stated.
Security, as publishedTLS in transit; transfer files are held in Cloudflare R2, encrypted at rest. KitSlate does not hold a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 attestation.TLS in transit; the app help page also says end-to-end encryption. SOC 2 Type II (latest report covers to 31 March 2026) and a SOC 3 report; TPN App and Cloud Gold Shield assessment, first completed October 2023, with a 2025 assessment listed in the Trust Center; SAML SSO (listed under Enterprise) and MFA; optional password-protected encryption at rest on Send deliveries. ISO 27001: Not stated.
Terms and your files
What the recipient needsA browser. No account and nothing to install; by opening the page or downloading, a recipient accepts the terms. On a Send portal the sender types the recipient's email and the recipient gets a link. A portal can be set so non-members download without logging in. The free Signiant App is needed for accelerated transfer; without it, transfers are slower and more limited. The admin enables that per portal.
Who owns the filesYou own the files. The licence is to store them for the period you set, stream previews to your recipients, deliver them and delete them. You own what you send.Terms §32, File transferYou own your content: the Terms of Service say the customer owns all Customer Content. A licence to your content: not stated in the terms. Signiant may use your information to test and fix errors, and keeps anonymous usage statistics that exclude file names and content.Customer owns all Customer ContentTerms of Service 3.2 (also 5.1, 5.6)
How long files are keptFor the period you set, 1 to 30 days (7 by default); then the files are deleted and cannot be recovered. Transfer files are not part of KitSlate's backups.Your files sit in your own storage, so retention is yours. Send portals on file storage delete files on a schedule you set (1 to 365 days, or off); download links expire after 30 days by default. Signiant keeps account data while the account is active, plus backups. Media Engine index data is stored by Signiant.
Where files are storedCloudflare storage in North America (Eastern North America location hint, best effort). Choosing a region: not stated.Files go where you point them: on-premises, or Amazon S3 (all public regions), Azure, Google Cloud or S3-compatible storage. Small Business already lists cloud and on-premises options. App-less transfers and Play pass through a Signiant cloud tier. Region of Signiant's own account data: Not stated.
Scanning and AI trainingTransfer files are not read, analysed or used to train anything, and they are not scanned for malware. We do not read, analyse or train anything on transfer files.Terms §32, File transferMalware scanning or content moderation of your files: Not stated. Signiant may investigate and remove content that breaks its Acceptable Use Policy. It analyses anonymised usage data with machine learning, and its Terms bar statistics that carry file names or content. Download and fair-use limitsNo download cap is stated. Transfers that exceed an allowance or break the terms may be refused, slowed or stopped. No bandwidth caps or file size limits on Small Business. Cloud payload: Professional 25TB, Enterprise 100TB; use above your order's limits is Overage. Your cloud provider's egress fees are passed through (Data Out Fees). App-less transfers and Play count as Cloud Data. Admins can cap portal speed. No bandwidth capsPricing & Packaging; Defined Terms 8, 11, 21
When a plan lapsesA cancelled plan keeps its paid features to the end of the period paid for. If a downgrade leaves you over the lower plan's limits, you are told what exceeds them and given a reasonable chance to export or reduce it before anything becomes read-only (Terms §16). Transfer links you have already sent are not ended by cancellation: each keeps working until the expiry you set, and its recipients can still download; the Pro review tools on them follow your plan at the time the page is opened (Terms §32).What happens to files when a plan lapses or is downgraded: Not stated. Terms: renews yearly unless 90 days' notice; access can be suspended 15 days after a missed payment; on termination you return software and documentation. Signiant says content storage stays under your control.

Beyond transfer
What else it doesThe transfer is one part of KitSlate: on paid plans the same account sends quotes that become invoices, call sheets and agreements, and keeps your crew and client books and your inventory.Beyond moving files: on Enterprise, portal metadata forms and CloudSpeX pre-delivery format checks; with Media Engine, search across your storage, proxyless preview and clips. Signiant says it does not bundle or resell storage.

About speed. Media Shuttle uses Signiant's own accelerated protocol over UDP, through the free Signiant App. Over long distances an accelerated engine is built to move files faster than an ordinary upload. KitSlate is a browser with nothing to install. Measured from our office in Manhattan on a 2 Gbps fiber connection: 1.82 Gbps up to KitSlate storage over 12 connections, 2.04 Gbps back down. That is 100 GB in about 8 min, 1 TB in about 1 h 21 min, measured 7 October 2026.

No side-by-side measurement against an accelerated engine has been published, so this page does not claim KitSlate is faster than one. The speed test on the Send page measures your own line before you send.
