KitSlate or MASV for sending video files?
MASV is a large-file transfer service: you send packages by email or link from its web app or desktop app, receive files through Portals, and deliver into cloud or on-premises storage through integrations and an API. It is priced per gigabyte that leaves MASV, whether downloaded or delivered to storage.
KitSlate’s Media Center sends up to 1 TB per transfer, plays the clips for the person you send to, takes their notes at a timecode and keeps the transfer beside the job’s quotes, call sheets and invoices. MASV’s side of the table is from its own pages, read on 8 October 2026. “Not stated” means their pages do not say.
KitSlate and MASV
Where MASV leadsBuilt for size, speed and automation: a global accelerated network with multi-threaded transfers that resume, which MASV says uses 90%+ of your bandwidth even on 10 Gbps lines; no package limit (single files tested to 15 TB); a desktop app and a headless Agent; Portals for clients to upload to you; delivery straight into S3, Frame.io, iconik and NAS; Express for downloading while the upload is still going; and published SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and TPN.
Where KitSlate leadsThe person you send to can watch before they download: camera files and MXF play on the page, with every audio track, notes at the timecode, LUTs and part downloads. KitSlate is a plan price with nothing per gigabyte, and the transfer sits beside the job's quotes, call sheets and invoices.

| What | KitSlateMedia Center | MASVFile transfer |
|---|---|---|
| Sending | ||
| Largest transfer | Per transfer: 5 GB on the free profile, 500 GB on Solo, 1 TB on Studio and above, up to 500 files. | No limit on package size; the per-file limit depends on the destination. Their speed page says they have tested single files up to 15 TB. |
| Storage | Your live links share your storage: 100 GB on the free profile, 500 GB on Solo, 2 TB on Studio, 4 TB on Production House, 10 TB on Enterprise. | Free for 5 days after upload (their stated minimum; free days vary by plan), then $0.07 per GB per month on their pricing page; their help says the rate varies by plan. No storage volume cap; you pay per day beyond the free days. |
| Link before the upload ends | Yes. The link exists the moment the upload starts, so you can share it while the files are still on their way; their page shows what has arrived and fills in the rest as it comes. | Yes, as MASV Express: the recipient can start downloading while the upload is still going, file by file for multi-file packages. Their help article says it is for qualifying subscription and Enterprise accounts (ask support) and lists eligible storage destinations. Their feature page says Express links are currently optimized for Send transfers; a Portal uses Express only when all its destinations support it. |
| Uploads from clients | No. Recipients can write back to you on the page; they cannot send files to you. | Yes. Portals are upload pages with a custom URL; contributors need no account or software. One-click Instant portals or Custom portals with rules (file types, size, naming, terms), a metadata form, passwords, an expiry date, embedding in your site, and delivery to integrations. |
| Speed | ||
| Transfer engine | In the browser over HTTPS, with nothing to install. Each file goes up in parts over as many as 32 parallel connections, set by a speed test before you send; an interrupted upload carries on from the last part saved, and downloads resume too. No accelerated UDP protocol and no desktop app. | MASV describes it as file acceleration over a global accelerated network. Files are split into chunks, each on its own concurrent connection, over HTTPS with no ports to open. Interrupted transfers resume from the point of failure. Their speed page says it matches or exceeds the speed of UDP tools. The desktop app is faster than the web app.optimized, multi-threaded file acceleration technologySpeed page, FAQ: compare to UDP-based solutions |
| What the sender uses | A browser. There is no desktop or mobile app to install. | Web app in a browser; desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux; headless Agent/CLI for servers and Docker; REST API and browser SDKs. No mobile app is listed on current pages (their March 2024 blog says "No mobile apps"); their help says MASV works in a browser on phones and tablets, with some limitations. Recipients can download on any device. |
| Speed, as published | Measured from our office in Manhattan on a 2 Gbps fiber connection: 1.82 Gbps up to KitSlate storage over 12 connections, 2.04 Gbps back down. That is 100 GB in about 8 min, 1 TB in about 1 h 21 min (measured 7 October 2026). A speed test on the Send page, and on kitslate.app/transfers, measures your own line before you send. | Their WeTransfer page says up to 5X faster transfers than WeTransfer; their speed page says the desktop app uses 90%+ of your available bandwidth, even on 10 Gbps lines. A speed test or transfer-time calculator: not stated. |
| Watching and review | ||
| Plays in the browser | H.264 video and sound play on the page. Camera files play too, MXF included: from the proxy the camera recorded, or from a preview KitSlate makes on paid plans, within the plan's monthly preview minutes. The download is the untouched master. ProRes and DNxHR .mov files show their specs and download; most browsers play only their sound. | Not stated on their current pages. A March 2024 MASV blog post lists “No video previews before you download” among MASV’s limits. Senders can preview files in the picker before sending. |
| Spec sheet | A spec sheet read from the file itself: Picture (codec, bit depth, frame rate), Sound (tracks and their names, sample rate) and Source (start timecode, camera, scene and take). | Not stated |
| Comments at a timecode | Pause and write: the note carries the clip's source timecode and opens the clip at that frame; you answer on the same thread. Notes sit as markers on the scrubber, and J, K and L play backwards, pause and speed up, on every plan. Frame step, an A-B loop, snapshots and the timecode display are on paid plans; a recipient whose own KitSlate plan is paid gets them by signing in on the page. | Not stated on their current pages. A March 2024 MASV blog post lists “No commenting or collaboration features” among MASV’s limits. |
| LUT view | Log footage shows as Rec.709 from the camera's metadata, a LUT in the clip or on the card, or a show LUT you attach; one switch shows the original. On paid plans. | Not stated |
| Download part of a clip | Set an in and an out and download that part: WAV, MP4 and MOV in their original quality (a long-GOP clip starts on the keyframe at or before the in point), and any previewed file as a compressed MP4. On paid plans. | In/out range of a clip: not stated. In the desktop app a recipient can pick which files of a package to download. |
| Transcripts | A transcript of each audio and video file, every line with the clip's own timecode: the words light up as it plays, a press on a line goes there, and it is searchable. Select a few words to trim to exactly that part, or attach them to a comment. Download it as text with or without timecodes, or as SRT or VTT subtitles. Made automatically by Workers AI (whisper-large-v3-turbo), with no speaker labels, so check it before you quote it. Off until the sender switches it on; on paid plans. | Not stated |
| Audio | ||
| Every audio track | On paid plans every track gets a lane with a switch, solo and a meter with peak hold and loudness, and the Audio menu adds Left, Right and Reverse; Stereo and Mono are on every plan. On a camera file's preview you hear a stereo mix, with every track listed. | Not stated |
| Audio as its own file | A sound recorder's poly WAV downloads whole on every plan; on paid plans also as one track, or split into a mono WAV per track, with the mixer's track names. | Not stated |
| Delivery and tracking | ||
| Download tracking | Per recipient: opened, played, downloaded, with the time and the speed. Open a transfer you sent and you see their page with an Activity panel only you see. Emails the first time each person downloads, on every download, or never. | Emailed recipients each get their own link and the sender sees each person's downloads in Transfer History; one shared link cannot be tracked per person. The sender is emailed on a successful download of a shared link; Slack notifications. A per-package Activity Feed is on all teams; live upload tracking is Enterprise. |
| Your branding | On paid plans the email and the download page carry your company's name, logo, email and phone, for the company you send as. No custom domain. | Two places. Team Branding settings (logo, background, accent colour) cover download pages and emails for ordinary sends; each Portal has its own branding and custom URL. Plan: their pricing page lists branded Portals under the Platform (10 TB+) plan, but their Portals page says it comes at signup at no extra charge. |
| Integrations | None for transfers: no editing-software panels, no cloud-storage connectors and no transfer API. Recipients come from your KitSlate crew, client and company books. | Their integrations page lists Amazon S3, Backblaze, Box, DigitalOcean, Dropbox, Frame.io, Google, iconik, LucidLink, MediaSilo, Microsoft, Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS, Wasabi, Slack and more; their pages say "30+" and "25-plus". REST API, webhooks, headless Agent (CLI, Docker), watch folders, browser SDKs. Their content-creators page mentions a Premiere Pro Panel. |
| Security, as published | TLS in transit; transfer files are held in Cloudflare R2, encrypted at rest. KitSlate does not hold a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 attestation. | SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001:2022, TPN (Gold Shield), GDPR, PIPEDA, HIPAA with a BAA. TLS 1.2+ in transit, AES-256 at rest. SAML SSO and mandatory MFA; password links, download limits, expiry. |
| Terms and your files | ||
| What the recipient needs | A browser. No account and nothing to install; by opening the page or downloading, a recipient accepts the terms. | A browser only: no account and no software to download. The sender can add a password, or require Team/Teamspace membership or SSO. The sender needs an account. |
| Who owns the files | You own the files. The licence is to store them for the period you set, stream previews to your recipients, deliver them and delete them.You own what you send.Terms §32, File transfer | You keep ownership of everything you send: the Terms give MASV no ownership rights. A content licence: not stated. The Terms limit MASV's access to what the law requires, your permission, automated malware scanning and copyright takedowns.MASV acquires no ownership rights in Customer ContentTerms of Service, section 4.3 (access limits: 4.2) |
| How long files are kept | For the period you set, 1 to 30 days (7 by default); then the files are deleted and cannot be recovered. Transfer files are not part of KitSlate's backups. | Files are deleted at the expiry date you set (default = your plan's free days, minimum 5) and cannot be restored. Terms also say content is deleted within 10 days of completed transmission unless you instruct otherwise. Cancelling a Team deletes its packages. Personal information: deleted or anonymised within 90 days after the subscription ends. |
| Where files are stored | Cloudflare storage in North America (Eastern North America location hint, best effort). Choosing a region: not stated. | On AWS, in eight data centres (US East and West, Sao Paulo, London, Singapore, Mumbai, Tokyo, Sydney). Files go through the nearest one. Region locking is by request to sales, with no self-serve choice or plan stated. |
| Scanning and AI training | Transfer files are not read, analysed or used to train anything, and they are not scanned for malware.We do not read, analyse or train anything on transfer files.Terms §32, File transfer | Malware scanning of transfers, with a 100 MB per-file limit; flagged transfers are halted. Terms bar MASV from using your files to train any AI model and say it does not actively monitor content. No content moderation is described.use such content to train, fine tune or improve any AI modelTerms of Service, section 4.2 |
| Download and fair-use limits | No download cap is stated. Transfers that exceed an allowance or break the terms may be refused, slowed or stopped. | No download cap stated, but every download from MASV is billed per GB. The sender sets a download limit (default 3 per recipient or link). Terms add a fair-usage clause and allow suspension for abuse; five wrong portal passwords lock the portal. |
| When a plan lapses | A cancelled plan keeps its paid features to the end of the period paid for. If a downgrade leaves you over the lower plan's limits, you are told what exceeds them and given a reasonable chance to export or reduce it before anything becomes read-only (Terms §16). Transfer links you have already sent are not ended by cancellation: each keeps working until the expiry you set, and its recipients can still download; the Pro review tools on them follow your plan at the time the page is opened (Terms §32). | Annual plans are a 12-month commitment; their help says cancelling stops payments at the anniversary, and their Terms say annual plans renew automatically unless cancelled at least 30 days before the term ends. Cancelling a Team deletes its packages. A failed card deactivates the account until updated; overdue accounts can be restricted. After termination you can retrieve files for up to 30 days or until they expire. Downgrade to pay-as-you-go is at MASV's discretion; file handling on downgrade: Not stated. |
| Price | ||
| Published price | The Media Center is on every plan, the free profile included (5 GB per transfer). Solo $19, Studio $49, Production House $149 a month; Enterprise: custom pricing. Save 20% billed annually. A plan price with its seats included (1 seat on Solo, 3 seats on Studio, 8 seats on Production House); nothing per gigabyte, and recipients never need a seat. | Pay as you go: $0.25 per GB leaving MASV (downloads and deliveries to connected storage), the first 15 GB free each month. Annual plans billed monthly over 12 months: 250 GB $58, 500 GB $110, 1 TB $215, 2 TB $410 a month. Pre-bought credits for 180 days: 5 TB $1,229, 10 TB $2,355, 25 TB $5,632. Charged per GB, not per seat (USD). |
| Beyond transfer | ||
| What else it does | The transfer is one part of KitSlate: on paid plans the same account sends quotes that become invoices, call sheets and agreements, and keeps your crew and client books and your inventory. | Transfer, upload Portals, automation, storage integrations, API and a usage dashboard. Their Terms say it is for temporary transfer, not permanent storage. Review or asset management of its own: Not stated. |
About speed. MASV says it uses multi-threaded file acceleration over HTTPS on a global accelerated network, and that its desktop app is faster than its web app. Over long distances an accelerated engine is built to move files faster than an ordinary upload. KitSlate is a browser with nothing to install. Measured from our office in Manhattan on a 2 Gbps fiber connection: 1.82 Gbps up to KitSlate storage over 12 connections, 2.04 Gbps back down. That is 100 GB in about 8 min, 1 TB in about 1 h 21 min, measured 7 October 2026.
No side-by-side measurement against an accelerated engine has been published, so this page does not claim KitSlate is faster than one. The speed test on the Send page measures your own line before you send.
